Uber becomes increasingly popular in Croatia during tourist season

ZAGREB, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) — During the peak tourist season from June to September, 170,000 tourists used Uber service at Croatia’s Adriatic coast, almost 50 percent more compared to the same period last year, the ride-hailing company said on Thursday in a statement.

“The fact that 94 percent of tourists already had Uber application is a clear indication that foreigners expect Uber to be available in our country and that they like to use it,” general manager of Uber for Southeastern Europe Davor Tremac said in the statement.
“The results of this tourist season have once again confirmed the importance of the new Road Transport Act, which makes it easy for everyone to travel across the country,” Tremac said.
In April, the Croatian government confirmed the new law that legalized Uber services in the country.

The majority of tourists who were using Uber came from Britain and the U.S. (14 percent), as well as Australia and France (5 percent).

The mostly traveled trips were those of less than five kilometers (84 percent), while the longest run was a 550 kilometers ride from the coastal city Pula to Osijek in eastern Croatia, the press release says.
Last summer the company launched the boat transfer service UberBOAT. This summer it was used several hundred times, most often on excursions to the islands close to Split, Dubrovnik, and Sibenik.
