On the occasion of the 23rd anniversary of the killing of civilians in Trusina near Konjic, the Association for Social Research and Communications (UDIK) made a performance at the Square of Friar Grga Martić in memory of this crime that happened in 1993.
“The crime in Trusina is not problematized in public, although it is one of the worst crimes that happened in Herzegovina. On the same day a crime happened in Ahmići, and that crime is more preferred because of a larger number of victims. This shows that we do not have equal criteria for all criminals and for all victims,” stated the coordinator of UDIK Edin Kanka Čudić.
Čudić added that their final request is the introduction of “facing the past” in the educational system, the way that Germany did it after the Second World War, because “only then we will maybe get the critical mass of public that will equally condemn all crimes”.
According to UDIK, the crime in Trusina happened when members of ARBiH entered the village and killed 22 Croats, of whom 18 were civilians and four members of the Croatian Defense Council (HVO).
Edin Džeko and Rasema Handanović, former members of the unit “Zulfikar”, were finally convicted for this crime. The Court of BiH pronounced a one-year long prison sentence to Nihad Bojažid, Nedžad Hodžić was sentenced to 12 years in prison, and Mensur Memić to ten years in prison. Dževad Salčin and Senad Halaković are finally acquitted of any responsibility for the crime.
