The UK government today unveiled a $21 million humanitarian aid package to support relief efforts in Gaza.

The funding will provide emergency medical assistance, food and shelter for thousands of civilians, while supporting vital infrastructure projects across the occupied Palestinian territory, it said in a statement.

As part of the package, $2.5 million will be allocated to the World Bank to help rebuild and build key water and energy infrastructure in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Gaza.

Development Secretary Anneliese Dodds said the UK was using the opportunity of the ceasefire to increase aid deliveries and was pushing for the release of all hostages, while working towards the establishment of a viable Palestinian state.

“The UN and its agencies, including UNRWA, must be given permission by Israel to carry out their vital work. This announcement is part of the UK’s investment in the ceasefire agreement, expanding aid operations and ensuring that the most vulnerable people have access to medical assistance, water, food and shelter,” Dodds said, adding:

“We must seize this opportunity to deliver a large amount of humanitarian aid to Gaza, release all hostages and pave the way for a viable Palestinian state.”

The UK has provided £41 million ($51 million) in funding to UNRWA this fiscal year, supporting its operations in health, education and social services for Palestine refugees, AA writes.
