United Kingdom (UK) journalist Charlotte Alice Peet (32) has gone missing in Brazil, the Association of Foreign Correspondents in Brazil (ACIE) in the country announced, calling on authorities to intensify the search.

On February 8th, Peet told a friend that she was in Sao Paulo and planned to go to Rio de Janeiro, after which all contact with her family was lost. A few days later, her closest relatives informed a friend that they could not reach her.

According to her LinkedIn profile, she worked as a correspondent in Brazil for media outlets including Al Jazeera and the UK newspaper The Times.

ACIE expressed concern over her disappearance and sent a message of support to her family and friends.

According to ACIE, the case was first reported to the police in Rio on Monday but was later forwarded to the relevant authorities in Sao Paulo, where she was last seen. Sao Paulo Secretariat of Public Security stated that the state department for homicide and person protection would assist in the investigation.

Charlotte worked in Rio as a freelance correspondent two years ago before returning to London, but she moved back to Brazil in November last year.

According to available information, before disappearing, she contacted a friend in Rio via WhatsApp seeking accommodation, but he was unable to help her.

The family has provided Brazilian police with her flight details and a photo of her passport to facilitate the search.

“ACIE and its board of directors call on the relevant authorities to intensify the search so that the UK journalist can be found as soon as possible,” stated the association’s president, Edmar Figueiredo, and his team in a statement.
