Ukraine and the United States (U.S.) are in the final stage of negotiations on a minerals agreement, confirmed Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna.

Although earlier this month, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected an agreement that would allow the U.S. access to Ukrainian minerals in exchange for U.S. military support, Stefanishyna has now emphasized that negotiations are in the final stage, as stated on platform X.

“Ukrainian and U.S. teams are in the final stage of negotiations regarding the minerals agreement. The negotiations have been very constructive, and almost all key details have been finalized,” she stated.

She added that both sides are committed to swiftly concluding the agreement and expressed hope that the leaders of the U.S. and Ukraine could sign and approve it in Washington as soon as possible to demonstrate a long-term commitment to cooperation.

This announcement comes on the day marking three years since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which was ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24th, 2022.
