maraton-vukovar-srebrenica-1The Council of the Bosniak National Minority Zagreb organizes the third ultra marathon which will be held from 6- 10 July from Vukovar to Srebrenica to mark the nineteenth anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.

The President of Croatia Ivo Josipović is the sponsor of this event.

The intention of the organizers is to remember all those who are innocently killed during the war in Croatia and B&H, and especially to pay tribute to the victims of Vukovar and Srebrenica.

“Connecting the two cities, Vukovar and Srebrenica, we want to raise awareness about the importance of remembering and finally solving the issue of missing persons as a fundamental expression of humanity towards those who still, nineteen years after the war, do not know anything about the fate of their beloved ones”, announced the Council of the Bosniak minority Zagreb.

Participants of ultra marathons will be the Croatian defenders Duško Štrbac from Zagreb, Elvir Rakipović, doc.dr.sc.Dražen Ćućić and Robert Kasumović from Osijek and students Domagoj Šeremet from Vukovar and Alen Čokić from county.

Marathon runners in five stages will pass 227 km from Vukovar (Ovčara) to Srebrenica (Potočari).

The departure is scheduled for 6 July, at 09:00, from the memorial center Ovačara.
