UNRWA: At least 200 killed in Israeli Attack on Rafah

Yesterday, the United Nations (UN) issued a warning, painting a grim picture following Sunday’s Israeli airstrike on a camp for displaced Palestinians in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, which killed at least 200 people.

“According to some international medical sources our teams have spoken with, at least 200 people were killed in that attack, including women and children,” said Juliette Touma, Director of Communications for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Emphasizing the severe impact of the attack, Touma highlighted that it has added to the widespread fear of death among the population.

She noted that over a million people have left Rafah since May 6th, and displacement is still ongoing.

“Only 200 aid trucks have been able to pass through in the last three weeks. This is, of course, a drop in the ocean amid the humanitarian needs of the people, as they continue to grow immensely. What Gaza needs is 500 trucks, and it should be a combination of commercial and humanitarian supplies,” she added.

Earlier, the Gaza Government Media Office reported that at least 45 people, mostly children and women, were killed and 250 injured in the Israeli attack on the displaced persons camp in Rafah. This occurred near the UNRWA logistics base in Tal al-Sultan, BHRT writes.
