The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced yesterday that Israeli military actions in Rafah have forced an additional 30.000 people to flee.
According to UNRWA, residents of Gaza continue to be forcibly displaced, and “since the military offensive on Rafah began on May 6th, more than 630.000 people have been forced to leave the area.”
“The mass exodus has had a significant impact on Deir al-Balah in central Gaza Strip, where many of the displaced have sought refuge,” the UN agency stated, describing the situation there as unbearable with dire conditions.
Israel attacked the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7th last year, which resulted in the death of approximately 1.200 people.
Since then, more than 35.300 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed, and more than 79.200 have been injured, according to Palestinian health authorities.
More than seven months into the Israeli war, vast areas of the Gaza Strip are in ruins, with 85 percent of the enclave’s population internally displaced.
Israel has been accused of genocide before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). A provisional ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to halt genocidal acts and take measures to ensure the provision of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
