US and British Warplanes carried out Airstrikes on Yemen

US and British warplanes carried out at least three airstrikes on the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah on Monday, the Houthi-led al-Masirah television reported.

The strikes hit targets in the Ras Issa area of al-Salif district, northwest of the city, the television said, without providing further information.

Hodeidah residents posted on social media that the attacks targeted Houthi fighters at the Houthi-controlled naval base in Ras Issa.

The coalition has not yet commented on these attacks.

Since November 2023, the Houthis have increasingly attacked commercial ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, which they claim is in retaliation for Israeli attacks in Gaza.

In response, the United States and Britain launched air and missile strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, beginning in mid-January. Rather than deterring or degrading the rebels’ capabilities, however, the strikes appear to have sparked further escalation with Houthi forces, Xinhua reports.
