US President Donald Trump hailed the “great progress” made during Trade Talks between US and China

US President Donald Trump hailed the “great progress” made during trade talks between US and Chinese leaders in Geneva on tariffs and said a “return to the original terms” had been negotiated.

“We had a very good meeting with China in Switzerland today. Much was discussed, much was agreed upon,” Trump wrote on the Trut Soschl website.

“The negotiations on a complete ‘reset’ were reached in a friendly and constructive manner. We hope, for the benefit of both China and the United States, that China will open up to American companies. Tremendous progress has been made!” he wrote.

Talks between China and the United States, which began yesterday morning at a luxury villa in Geneva to try to resolve the trade war between the two countries, were suspended in the evening and are expected to resume this morning.

The two capitals sent senior representatives to Geneva this weekend for talks: US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng.

Besant and Greer met with Chinese officials after weeks of rising tensions over US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on Chinese goods of more than 100 percent. The trade dispute, along with Trump’s decision last month to impose tariffs on dozens of other countries, has disrupted supply chains, rattled financial markets and raised fears of a sharp economic slowdown, Index reports.
