Celebrating March as Women’s History Month, USAID to BiH organized and supported more than 15 events dedicated to the empowerment of women in March and under the slogan “Count on Women”!

The celebration of the achievements of women from BiH ends today with the fair “Count on Women”!, which will be held today on Trg Djece Sarajeva.

The US Ambassador to BiH Patrick Moon and the Director of the USAID Mission David Barth will visit the fair, with the participation of the Embassies of Norway and Czech Republic.

The fair will showcase the partnership of the local women and the US government that helped improve living standards, support ideas of women empowerment and progress in the area of gender equality.

Around 50 women and companies run by women will be presented at the fair, ranging from agricultural products and handicrafts, to free legal aid and activism of women in non-profit organizations.

“Strengthening human rights and supporting sustainable economic progress of BiH depends on women empowerment and gender equality’’, announced USAID.

Promoting gender equality and the position of women and girls, USAID launched an initiative in march calling for changes in order to improve the political participation of women and ensure them better economic conditions, access to justice and legal protection and to present the achievements of women, their courage and determination.

In organizing the March events, the final goal of USAID was to create a comprehensive promotional program that would relay key messages on the rights of women to the public, and which would last longer than one day in March-the International Day for Women.

Organized throughout the world, these events are focused on the participation of women in politics and business, strengthening women and girls in rural areas, contributing to the work of women in the judicial and legislative sectors, and eliminating violence in the family and promoting successful women as role models to girls in BiH.

Until today the US government has ensured nearly 1,6 billion dollars through USAID in the economic, democratic and social progress of BiH.
