The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, arrived on an official visit to Mongolia, and this country should have arrested him upon his arrival on its territory. However, no arrests were made, and Mongolia will probably face sanctions soon.

In March 2023, a warrant was issued for Putin by the International Criminal Court for the invasion of Ukraine, which Russia launched in February 2022.

As Russia is not a signatory to the Rome Statute, which established the International Criminal Court, Putin will not be arrested in the country he leads.
However, he should now be arrested under international law, as Mongolia is a signatory to the Rome Statute. The authorities have decided not to arrest the Russian president, and experts say that disciplinary proceedings against Mongolia will now follow for this move.

It is not yet completely clear what potential sanctions await this Asian country, but work has already begun in the International Criminal Court on punishment for Mongolia’s failure to fulfill its obligations.
