What has changed Four Years after the Change of Government in Montenegro?

Four years ago, on August 30th, 2020, the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) of Milo Djukanovic, who ruled for thirty years with the support of coalition partners, was replaced in the elections.

The parliamentary majority was won by three coalitions led by pro-Russian and pro-Serbian parties gathered in the Democratic Front (DF), the Democrats and the Civic Movement of Ura.

They were supported by the Serbian Orthodox Church, which had a dominant influence on the formation of the first government after the dismissal of the DPS.

An enormous number of ministers

In the past four years, 67 ministers and vice presidents were elected in three governments.

Citizen standard

The minimum consumer basket in 2020 was 640 euros, and in 2024 it is 820 euros.

The average salary four years ago was 524 euros, and this year it was 825.

Political revanchism

After coming to power, the new majority dismissed the directors of all educational institutions, who then initiated court proceedings for illegal dismissals.

Out of 140 initiated procedures, 130 were legally terminated, which has cost the state about 300,000 euros so far, which is what it has to pay to former directors due to illegal dismissals.

Political employment

Although the new authorities announced that they would make a discontinuity with the practice of the DPS, depoliticize institutions and eliminate party employment, party personnel were placed at the head of institutions, and their activists were massively employed in state-owned companies.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Public Administration from March this year, almost 54,000 people are employed in the public sector, which is about 2,200 more than two years ago, RSE writes.
