Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić held a meeting in Brussels with ambassadors, heads of EU missions of the EU member countries (COREPER II).
COREPER II (Committee of the Permanent Representatives of the Governments of the Member States to the European Union) is the main body of the Council of European Union which prepares the sessions of the Council for basic EU operations (GAC and FAC), and in this context it has a key role in forming opinions and conclusions by the Council, in whose jurisdiction is the consideration of BiH application for membership in the EU and sending requests to the European Commission to prepare and deliver the Questionnaire.
Zvizdić presented the results achieved by BiH in the past period and expressed confidence that “our work and the achieved progress will be recognized when the Council includes the BiH membership application in the agenda as soon as possible”.
Zvizdić highlighted that precisely the membership in the EU is the driving force for the launched reforms and every future step forward on the EU path is a strong wind the sails for the continuation of reform processes. Zvizdić pointed out that everyone in BiH is aware of obligations and the work ahead of them and that the Questionnaire is not seen as a reward, but as a stimulus for further acceleration on the EU path.
Zvizdić also informed the ambassadors that BiH is in the process of negotiating with the EU about adjusting the Stabilization and Association Agreement of Croatia to the EU, which is one of the key preconditions for continuation of EU integration. He said that three meetings of negotiation teams have already been held, with the aim of finding a satisfying solution, and expressed optimism that this process will be completed soon.
Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH said that, apart from EU integration, BiH is also focused on economic reforms in order to improve the living standard of its citizens, as well as on security sector, the rule of law, and fight against terrorism. As one of the key foreign policy priorities, Zvizdić highlighted the activation of the Membership Action Plan for membership in NATO.
“All these issues are inevitable for the creation of one stable, sustainable and prosperous Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are aware of all the challenges ahead of us, we persevere in investing all our efforts in order to see a concrete progress in all the mentioned areas,” said Zvizdić in Brussels.
