wigemarkHead of EU Delegation in BiH and special representative in BiH, Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, called on the citizens of BiH to vote in the local elections tomorrow and choose their government.

“Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina will tomorrow vote in the local elections. This is an example of democracy in action, as well as a way to promote public responsibility. European Union encourages all citizens to vote in the elections and support parties and candidates for whom they believe they will advocate for the issues that are important to the citizens and the environment where they live,” Wigemark said.

Wigemark added that preservation of integrity of the election process, in accordance with international standards and best practices, is very important. These elections will be monitored by international and domestic observers accredited by the Central Election Commission of BiH, including the coalition Pod Lupom, a joint initiative of six non-governmental organizations from BiH with 3.000 observers who will cover every second voting place.

“I would like to stress the need for democratic, credible and inclusive election process. European Union greets the work of election observers, aimed at ensuring free and fair elections and pointing to possible election irregularities. We invite all political subjects and election administration to treat observers professionally and fairly and to sustain from any form of pressure or intimidation,” Wigemark stated.
