Export_of_animal_origin_foodFor Bosnia and Herzegovina to be able to export food of animal origin to the EU, BiH has to have infallible system that will detect even the slightest drug residues in milk, meat and meat products…

Experts call it National residue monitoring program. This requires a dozen of skilled veterinary inspectors and contemporary laboratories in at least few biggest cities in country.

Precisely because of this program has never been implemented completely in BiH, our country has a ban on the export of food of animal origin to the EU. In fact, part of that program has been implemented, so BiH was allowed to export fish and honey to the EU, which we don’t have enough for our needs.

At the same time, every year hundreds of million BAM of goods from animal origin enter to BiH from neighboring and other countries.

On this occasion, a conference will be held in Sarajevo, on which results of previous work in the field of establishing a system of residue monitoring in food of animal origin in BiH, will be presented.

Representatives of Embassies of USA, Czech Republic and Sweden in BiH, together with the director of Veterinary Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ljubomir Kalaba, will present in hotel Bristol in Sarajevo results of the implementation of pilot project for building veterinary laboratories and inspections in BiH.

Project is funded by the Government of USA, through the Fund for the support to new donors (Emerging Donors Challenge Fund) and the Czech Development Agency (CzDA), and project has been implemented through the FARMA project, which is jointly funded by the American Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Embassy of Sweden in BiH.
