Will the Child Allowance be increased in the Federation of BiH?

At the session held yesterday, the Government of Federation of BiH adopted amendments to the Draft Law on Material Support to Families with Children in FBiH.

According to the amendments adopted by the Government to the Law on Material Support of Families with Children in the FBiH, the child allowance will be provided for 80,000 children, for which about 100 million BAM will be allocated annually from the budget.

After the FBiH government adopts the amendments, the next step is in the FBiH Parliament. The cantons hereby undertake to pay maternity benefits and that the minimum monthly allowance will be slightly above 300 BAM. Payment of child allowance will remain the responsibility of the federal government.

The amount of child allowance will be 19% of the lowest salary paid in FBiH, which will be 103.17 BAM instead of the previous 59.76 BAM. The amendments also envisage the suppression of the abuse of proof of joint household, which has so far been proven by the certification of house lists in municipalities.

All mothers who are on the records of the Employment Service will receive financial assistance, which will increase the number of beneficiaries of this benefit from 2,100 to 9,000. The amount that unemployed mothers will receive for one year is 30 percent of the average salary in FBiH.

The cantonal governments have been given three months to harmonize their regulations with the Federal, while the Federal Minister of Labor and Social Policy will prescribe application forms for exercising the right to child allowance.

The FBiH budget envisages 50 million BAM for this purpose, and the realization of rights should start in July this year.
