Will there be a shortage of Milk in BiH?

”There will be no shortage of milk in Republika Srpska (RS) unless frightened citizens start irrationally buying 10 or 20 liters at a time and cause shortages and price increases,” Minister of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry Boris Pasalic said yesterday.

Pasalic told that the decrease in milk production has been evident since December, and not a few days ago.

”Milk production is decreasing due to the increase in the price of concentrates, wheat, corn, soybeans, stock market commodities. Producers who feed cows with silage and haylage reduced expensive concentrated feed and increased the amount of cheap silage, which is why there is an artificial drop in production,” Pasalic explained.

”At the beginning of the year, we agreed on several projects with our dairies because we saw that we cannot influence the price of food, which is a commodity, but we agreed to import 1,000 heifers and we are doing this together with the dairies “Mlijekoprodukt” and “Padjeni”,” Pasalic pointed out.

Pasalic stated that in cooperation with the dairy from Dubica, about 700 heifers were imported, for which the Ministry allocated one million BAM, the dairy 1.5 million, and the producers provided the other necessary funds.

He thinks that Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) can produce enough milk for its needs even with the current production, Biznis Info writes.
