There were calls for help in terms of emergency after heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures from mountain villages in BiH, which are located at an altitude of 900 to 1,300 meters.
“Residents in 500 mountain villages in Zelengora, Maglic, Volujak, Crvnja, Treskavica, Visocica and Bjelasnica mountains, as well as in the valleys of Neretva, Ljuta and Sutjeska, fortunately, did not have problems in the last few days,” said president of the Club of Extreme Sports Bjelasnica, Ejub Fako, who contacted some of the locals in every village, and the volunteers of the club visited several villages.
Volunteers, members of the Club of Extreme Sports, are helping residents of mountain villages in case of emergencies. They have five snowmobiles, terrain vehicles and touring skis, which are used when they need to get to the village and the roads are impassable.
They recently visited the villages in the valley of Ljuta, Neretva and Sutjeska, and in the field Tjentiste and in Boracka valley.
Locals said they have everything they need because winter has just started, and possible shortages may occur in the upcoming months when they use all of their stocks.
“For centuries, in the Bosnian villages was usual to supply households with the food, fuel, and animal feed for six months to up to March or April when the snow melts down in order to have everything they need,” says Fako.
Modern times and modern technology, but also the limited financial capabilities greatly suppressed the practice of supply of food for several months. So now even when the roads are impassable for the shorter time, it is problem to deliver the basic necessities.
Fako says that the Club of Extreme Sports Bjelasnica is connected with members of the civil defense, mountain rescue, backcountry skiers, mountain guides and, if necessary, they can reach the local people in the villages to which roads are impassable.
