Year to Remember in B&H Football

Nogomet-loptaLovers of sport in B&H witnessed the most successful year in football in B&H. The popular ‘dragons’ qualified for the first time at the World Cup in Brazil, which will be held next year.

The B&H team took first place in the qualifications, ahead of Greece and Slovakia. The entire nation followed B&H, and many agree that it united the people of B&H in some way. A number of global media covered B&H’s qualification to the World Cup, and their placement at Mundial is greater when we consider the fact that two years ago the B&H Football Association (NSBiH) was threatened with suspension.

With President Elvedin Begić as President, and with the support of the Committee for Normalization led by the legendary Ivica Osim, NSBiH worked full steam to solve the problems that for years have hindered the work of B&H football institutions.

Their work soon paid off, and in 2013 B&H saw the launch of two new competitions, built a modern training center in Zenica that was opened by the President of UEFA Michel Platini, as well as significant improvements between the Association and fans.

At the annual press conference of the NSBiH, President Begić recalled that in March last year, the Association was accepted into UEFA by the Judges Convention, and made steps forward in marketing sponsorship.

Begić believes that the Association would continue to progress in 2014, but stressed that more things need to be addressed to ensure a bright future for B&H football. The team depends on players who built their careers in other countries in Europe throughout the world, and as a priority imposes raising the quality of the B&H Premiere League, which is currently at a low.

Begić said that it is not possible to do everything in one year and called for patience when it comes to the B&H Premiere League.

‘’First, we will turn to regulating the football field. This would automatically mean improving the quality of matches in B&H. We have some plans and proposals on the closing of a number of clubs that play in the league, and we will present it this year’’, said the NSBiH President.

There are also other problems in the state championship, such as the frequent appearance of hooligans, for which a systematic solution has not been found. Reducing the league would bring a higher concentration of better players in clubs, while increasing penalties for hooligans who manage to damage the reputation of B&H in almost every round would bring back more sports enthusiasts at the stadiums.
