A young scientist from Travnik, Randa Natras, represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the IAG-IASPEI scientific symposium that was held in Japan in the period from July 30 to August 4, 2017.

Her work was accepted for oral presentation at this world-class scientific conference, and she received financial support from the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) for covering the travel expenses and participation at the symposium together with another 13 young scientists from the world.

Within the “Geodetic Remote Research” session, Randa presented the results of the research that she obtained during the final work of the II cycle of her studies, and which was later amended for the purpose of the mentioned symposium. The name of her scientific work is “Remote Research of Total Electronic Counters (TEC) in the ionosphere by using observations of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) related to space time events and seismic activity in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” which was led by her mentor Dr. Medzida Mulic from the Department of Geodesy, the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Sarajevo.

With this study, Randa presented the University of Sarajevo and BiH at the IAG-IASPEI Symposium. Participation in the symposium provided an opportunity for results to be presented to scientists from universities all around the world, and contacts were established for further scientific research and cooperation.

This young scientist spent the last year in her native Travnik as part of the Program for Vocational Training in the Department of Urbanism, Construction, Cadaster and Property Legal Affairs in the Municipality of Travnik.

She speaks English and German language, and she is a member of several non-governmental organizations. During her education, she volunteered in several youth projects, received several scholarships and had the opportunity to participate in numerous workshops and training.

Randa will continue her success in the next academic year through a new research at the Technical University in Vienna, thanks to the nine-month scholarship of Ernst Mach-worldwide that she received by the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research (OeAD-GmbH).
