I am honored that the film ‘Blum – masters of your future’ is a Bosnian candidate for the Oscar, director and screenwriter of the film Jasmila Žbanić told Fena news agency.
The film “Blum” will compete in the Best International Feature Film category for the 98th prestigious Academy Award, which is awarded annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS).
“We had excellent reactions from the audience in the United States of America and we hope that our American distributor will allow a wider audience to see the film. “Blum” gives hope that we can live better, and that’s what the world needs right now. Today, there are almost no alternatives to capitalism, which starts and lives off wars,” said Žbanić for Fena.
As she stated, Emerik Blum created and lived a model of society that allows everyone to think about alternatives.
“He always had hope for a better society based on love for people,” added BH director.
The Commission of the Association of Film Workers of Bosnia and Herzegovina voted to decide on the Bosnian and Herzegovina candidate for the Oscar. The film’s script is written by Jasmila Žbanić and Zoran Solomun. The film’s set and costume designer is Irma Saje, the director of photography is Eldar Emrić, and the editor is Vladimir Gojun. The film was produced by the Sarajevo production company Deblokada, and the film’s producer is Damir Ibrahimović.
The film is about the entrepreneur Emerik Blum, who many say was ahead of his time, and who created a large, successful company “Energoinvest”. It did business all over the world with billions of dollars in profit. Taking advantage of the specific position of Yugoslavia, which did not belong to either the Eastern or Western political blocs, the company operated according to a unique business model based on worker participation in management and profits.
Emerik Blum turned a small studio into a business giant, working according to a self-management model in which all employed workers decide on all matters concerning their company. This film shows us the successful application of this most democratic model of governance, which is still unknown to the general public.
The film “Blum – Masters of Your Future” is on the program of the Meeting Point Cinema from September 18th.
