Record Number of registered Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Diaspora for Voting at Local Elections

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a record number of people registered to vote from abroad in the upcoming elections. More than 100,000 citizens have registered and will have the right to vote, Klix.ba news portal reports.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina thanks all citizens of BiH abroad who exercised their democratic right and registered to vote in the local elections on November 15, 2020 by midnight on September 1. A record number of registered, according to the latest information, is over 100,000 received unprocessed applications, shows the growing responsibility of BiH citizens towards the homeland, but also their desire to create the future of local communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina through their participation in democratic processes,” the ministry said on Wednesday.

This year, for the first time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs formed a team to support the implementation of the Local Elections, which has been at the service of BiH every day for the past month. citizens, with the aim of better information and elimination of problems during registration.

In the past period, the members of this Team also held meetings in the diplomatic and consular missions of Bosnia and Herzegovina in several European countries, which were attended by representatives of associations and clubs.

Through the formation of the team and activities in the past period, through the engagement of the BiH diplomatic and consular network, the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina were additionally animated to register for the elections.

“The number of registered citizens for voting by mail and in DCMs is a significant step forward in the development of awareness of BiH citizens about participation in elections, but also in maturing relations with the homeland. MFA activities through meetings in embassies and consulates, where BiH. citizens are presenting their problems and suggestions, it is a way to continue to build a relationship with our citizens abroad in the future. The responsibility of BiH citizens and interest in involvement in the processes at home, is an additional motivation for us to continue to build and improve the relationship of Bosnian citizens I take this opportunity to thank all the associations that bring together BiH citizens abroad, but also individuals who have worked hard to register for the upcoming local elections. I sincerely hope that our efforts will not be in vain, and that BiH citizens who have registered will, when the time comes, exercise their right to vote, “said Bisera Turkovic, Foreign minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
