Missing Persons in B&H nap.baThe Head of the EU Delegation in B&H and EU Special Representative in B&H, the Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark met yesterday at the headquarters of the ICMP in Sarajevo with the General Director of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) Kathryne Bomberger.

The Director-General Bomberger informed the Ambassador Wigemark about the achievements of the ICMP, which was established in 1996 and is working on finding the missing persons in B&H. Ambassador Wigemark was informed about the conclusions of a series of meetings organized by the ICMP with the policy makers and representatives from families of missing persons in the first quarter of 2015. According to the statistics of the ICMP, more than 70% of the missing persons in B&H were identified until today, which is an unprecedented achievement.

It is still being searched for about eight thousand missing persons, which means that the national and international institutions are expected to continue working on their finding and identification.

Ambassador Wigemark stressed the importance of resolving the issue of missing persons and ensuring sustainable peace and security in the region. He noted that the families of missing persons have a legally guaranteed right to the truth about the fate of their loved ones and the circumstances of their disappearance, as well as the right to an adequate legal investigation on any missing person. Ambassador Wigemark stated that the EU will continue to finance the activities of the ICMP in B&H, and that he hopes that the families of the missing will soon find their loved ones.
