Hand-written books in the Arabic language were found walled in an old building near the Stone Bridge in Trebinje.
Workers who found the books handed them to the Majlis of the Islamic Community of Trebinje. Next week, books will be sent on the restoration and conservation to the Gazi Husrev-Bey library in Sarajevo, after which the date of their origin will be known.
Two books out of five are handwritten Quran, while the remaining three books are manuals with notes.
It is mystery why the books were walled in, but it is assumed that the reason is superstition, or the custom of burying the book during the construction of buildings, or they had great value and the owners wanted to hide them from someone and thus preserve them.
