A Family left without a Roof, Neighbors came to Help

In recent days, Posavina was hit by a thunderstorm that destroyed the family house of Nadir and Sabaheta Brkić from Odžak. As a result of a lightning strike, their house caught fire and they were left homesick . Nevertheless, with the help of neighbors and other good people, the reconstruction has already started.

In the last month, three weather disasters ravaged Odžak and all three, unfortunately, passed over the house of the Brkić family. This last one was the most destructive for them because the roof caught fire due to a lightning strike.

“The first time, it was Wednesday, it exposed both sides of the house, so we repaired it on Thursday, then on Friday the same thing happened, then on Saturday we covered it and now it was caught by fire,” says Nadir Brkić.

Sabaheta remembers the moment when the house started to burn. Fortunately, no one was in it at that moment because Nadir was at work and Sabaheta was with a neighbor who lives not far from their house.

“I heard they were telling Nadir that the house was on fire. I went to the house and they called me, they say, you are crazy, you want to burn yourself. I don’t even know what happened,” says Sabaheta.

Firefighters, Nadir tells us, arrived immediately, but there was no rescue. Even the fire department from neighboring Modriča was called to help, whose firefighters, along with the local ones, extinguished the fire. The most important thing is that there were no human victims.

“We couldn’t save ourselves, there was also the fire brigade from Modriča, to whom I would like to thank. “If they hadn’t come, everything would have burned to the ground,” says Nadir.

“The most important thing for me is that we are all there, and I believe that it will be restored, many responded,” added Sabaheta.

After the big accident, this family was not left alone. Many people sympathized with their suffering and pain and came to their aid as best they could. Some help with money, some with material, and some with work. It is the human thing in everyone that wakes up when he sees a person in trouble next to him. The Brkić family is currently in trouble, but the people of Odžak with a big heart, who know what it is to lose a home, will unitedly put a smile back on the faces of Sabaheta and Nadir.
