A joint Session of the Two Entity Governments to be held soon

The governments of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entity of Republika Srpska will hold a joint session on Thursday, June 8, and on the agenda are numerous topics related to improving the lives of citizens throughout the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As the FBiH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Development, Entrepreneurship and Crafts Vojin Mijatović told Fena news agency, the session of the two entity governments is a useful and necessary practice that should be established in the future as it gives new momentum to the functioning of this level of government in BiH.

The Deputy Prime Minister believes that if such practice is to continue, it would be possible to work together on the creation of a single economic space in BiH, and then on other necessary legislative frameworks and reforms that equally concern the citizens of both entities.

Although the items on the agenda are still being coordinated, what is known for now, says Mijatović, is that the topics concern internal affairs, issues of refugees and displaced persons, culture and sports, education and science, economy, agriculture and forestry, justice and related issues for the environment and tourism.

Both governments nominated topics that should be discussed especially in the economic sector, and Mijatović emphasizes that one of the items on the agenda will refer to the harmonization of the process of reporting on the state of small and medium-sized enterprises to the European Commission, in accordance with the Stabilization and Association Agreement.

There is also a proposal to amend the Rulebook on the Application of the Law on Value Added Tax (VAT), in the form of an initiative, as well as the creation of conditions for the opening of centers of businesses and crafts in another entity and Brčko District, and these are all things that necessarily mean a single economic space in BiH, which is a must-have for the economy.

Mijatović reminded that this practice was also in Nermin Nikšić’s first mandate as the FBiH Prime Minister prime when laws were adopted in the entity parliaments almost in the same form, which enabled citizens and businesses to function without difficulties and differences in the entire territory of BiH.

An official invitation to hold a joint session of entity governments arrived on May 10 this year from the President of the Government of the RS to the Government of the Federation of BiH, with a proposal that this session be held in the first half of June this year in Banja Luka, which the FBiH Government accepted.
