During the summer season, longer retentions at border crossings between BiH and Croatia in the south of the country are traditionally recorded, and the international border crossing Doljani is one of the most frequent ones.
According to Sanela Dujković, spokeswoman of the Border Police of BiH, other frequent crossings are Gradiška, Brod, Orašje and Izačić.
“Border crossing Doljani is specific because it has been used for years by a large number of citizens for crossing the state border when going to the seaside or coming back home, and in infrastructure terms it is a bad crossing with one entrance and one exit lane,” said Dujković about Doljani.
The Border Police of BiH recommends the citizens to choose alternative border crossings in the south.
“First alternative is the international border crossing Gabela which is located in the vicinity of Doljani. Other border crossings that can be used are international border crossing Crveni Grm, Orahovlje, Zvirići and Bijača. The number of recorded retentions is the lowest at border crossings Zvirići and Bijača,” explained Dujković.
If the citizens want to avoid retentions, another recommendation is to cross the borders in the south of the country during the night.
Dujković added that, when it comes to international border crossing under the jurisdictions of the Border Police Unit Trebinje, i.e. border crossings used for traveling to Dubrovnik Riviera or coming back from there, the most frequent one is the international border crossing Ivanica, and retentions are mostly recorded during weekends.
Alternative crossing is the international border crossing Trebimlja, located around 35 kilometers away from Ivanica.
