In the heart of old Sarajevo lies Bascarsija, with its sebilj (fountain) dominating the central Bascarsija Square, whose beauty has been praised in many songs.

Bascarsija and the sebilj are a meeting place for Sarajevo citizens, casual passers-by, as well as tourists and travelers.

Bascarsija and its “most faithful” residents, the pigeons, have always been symbols of the city and an indispensable spot for taking photos in all seasons.

Aerial photos taken show picturesque streets, religious sites, and places in the heart of the city that are visited by many visitors every day.

The historic urban area, Bascarsija, has been declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

The national monument is located within the spatial scope between the Seher Cehaja Bridge and the area of Isa-beg’s waqf to the east, Ferhadija mosque to the west, Emperor’s mosque and Konak to the south, the Old Orthodox Church to the north, and Kovaci to the northeast.

The border of the national monument starts at the Latin Bridge and proceeds northward.
