On Friday morning, the first trolleybus left Vogošća towards Austria Square and vice versa. After 33 years, it has been renovated and trolleybus line 105 is back in operation.

“We have returned the trolleybus to Vogošća, bought new trams, new trolleybuses, renovated the tram line and are expanding it to Hrasnica. We have implemented all these projects for the first time after decades of waiting. And there is no stopping.

With the money of all our citizens, we have improved public transport and traffic in the Sarajevo Canton – wrote the Minister of Transport in the Canton Government,” Adnan Šteta, on his Facebook profile.

As previously announced by the ministry, the trolleybus contact network from the center to Vogošća has been renovated and as of today, the trolleybus on line 105, Austria Square – Vogošća, has started operating according to the schedule.

The statement recalls that the trolleybus network was destroyed during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina and its capital.

“The network was destroyed in April 1992. After 33 years, on April 4, 2025, at around 10:00 PM, we conducted the first test run, and since April 27, trolleybuses have been running according to the timetable. I am extremely proud and happy about the implementation of this project, which was full of challenges, but we have successfully resolved them, to the satisfaction of all citizens, especially our fellow citizens living in Ciglane, Šip, Kobilja Glava, Hotonj and Vogošća,” said the Minister of Transport, Adnan Šteta.

In addition to the renovation of the contact network in a length of 8.6 kilometers, three electric traction substations were also built, 470 were renovated, and 113 new poles of the contact network were built.

In the past period, tests of the renovated contact network were carried out, so that everything would be functional for the return of trolleybuses to Vogošća.

“I would like to thank all participants in the project for their great efforts in implementing this project, and the citizens for their understanding and patience, because due to their needs, we carried out the work at night whenever possible. The project is completed and I am sure that it will be of great importance to all citizens,” concluded Minister Šteta.

The contractor for this project is the Turkish company Yapi Merkezi Insaat ve Sanayi A.S., the subcontractor is Step, and the supervision of the works was carried out by IPSA Institute – the statement states.

In addition to the GRAS trolleybus on line 105, Centrotrans buses will also operate to Vogošća on the Sutjeska – Vogošća line, with a changed schedule.
