The mayor of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, Irfan Cengic, and the ambassador of the State of Qatar in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), H.E. Meshaal bin Ali Al-Attiyah, yesterday jointly planted the 246th linden tree in the Alley of Ambassadors.

“In addition to planting the linden tree, which symbolizes cooperation and friendship between Qatar and BiH, we also discussed a concrete project and investment of nearly 4 million BAM in Bascarsija, which we plan to realize during this ambassador’s term,” emphasized Mayor Cengic.

The Alley of Ambassadors, which stretches from Bentbasa to Dariva, is a unique promenade in BiH and one of the recognizable meeting places of the local and international community. More than 240 ambassadors and high representatives of international organizations, who stayed in our country, planted a linden tree in the name of the state they represent.

By planting the linden tree, the ambassador of Qatar joined this tradition, and Mayor Cengic presented him with a certificate of participation in the project, as well as a brochure that contains a record of all previous plantings and participants in the Alley.

“At the invitation of the esteemed Mr. Irfan Cengic, mayor of the Municipality of Stari Grad, I had the honor to plant a tree that bears my name in the Alley of Ambassadors, together with colleagues from the diplomatic corps. This ecological initiative represents a symbol of beautiful connections among people, and reflects the values of sustainability, peace, and friendship that unite us in this historic space. I express sincere gratitude for this noble gesture that reflects the spirit of cooperation and mutual respect between our states. I also look forward to future initiatives that will further strengthen our humane and lasting relations,” stated the ambassador of Qatar in BiH.

The planting and the meeting were attended by the chairman and deputy chairman of the Municipal Council, Seid Skaljic and Kerim Smailbegovic, as well as councilors Merima Arnautovic and Selvira Vilic, stated the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo.
