Amela Becirspahic Midzic, a victim of domestic violence and a mother who has been fighting for months to exercise her parental rights, has decided to end the hunger strike that lasted 35 days. She continues her fight for justice through institutional mechanisms.

She made the decision at the request of the Deputy Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Duska Jurisic, the Chairwoman of the Gender Equality Commission of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH (FBiH), Alma Kratina, the Prime Minister of Una-Sana Canton (USC), Mustafa Ruznic, and the organization Glas zene (Voice of Woman) Bihac, as well as numerous citizens concerned for her health, but continues the fight for justice through institutional mechanisms.

“During the 35 days of hunger strike, Amela lost more than 16 kilograms of body weight, which led to the deterioration of her health condition and the need for a medical examination and further measures in accordance with doctors’ recommendations,” stated the organization Glas zene Bihac.

This organization, together with partner organizations, the Women’s Movement of USC, will provide Amela with psychological, legal, and logistical support, and will monitor the implementation of all legal obligations of the competent institutions. They remain open to dialogue with all relevant institutions, with the aim of reaching a peaceful, lawful, and just solution, in the best interest of the child and the mother, as victims of violence.

They thank the citizens, organizations, and the media for the solidarity and support shown to Amela Becirspahic Midzic in her fight for justice and dignity.
