An Israeli Intelligence Agent was allegedly executed in Iran

An agent of the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service, has been executed in Iran, the official news agency IRNA reported, as reported by the Guardian.

“This person communicated with foreign services, especially the Mossad, gathering classified information and, with the participation of associates, delivered documents to foreign services, including the Mossad,” it said.

No name of person provided.

It was stated that the accused handed over confidential information to a “Mossad officer” with the aim of “propaganda for groups and organizations opposed to the Islamic Republic”. It was not stated where the alleged handover of that information took place.

It is not clear when the person was arrested, but IRNA said the appeal was rejected.

The execution, which took place at Zahedan prison in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, came a day after Baloch militants attacked a police station in the province, killing 11 security personnel and injuring several others.

According to the Guardian, a state funeral for the men was held on Saturday in the town of Rasko, where the attack took place, according to state television. Two Jaish al-Adl militants were also killed in the ensuing clashes.

The impoverished province of Sistan-Baluchestan, which borders Afghanistan and Pakistan, has long been the scene of frequent clashes between security forces and Sunni militants. The population of the province is predominantly Sunni Muslims, while the majority of Iranians are Shiites.
