Although 2021 in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) was marked by different political and other moments that can hardly be characterized as positive events, the last year was also marked by several moments that brought smiles to everyone’s faces.

Among the sporting success that delighted all the citizens of BiH, the performances of the women’s basketball team of BiHstand out, which achieved incredible success by winning fifth place in Eurobasket, so they qualified for the World Cup in Australia.

Taekwondo player Nedzad Husic, who was named the best athlete in BiH at the end of December, also delighted the public. In 2021, Husic achieved several results worthy of attention. Hebecame the European champion in Olympic taekwondo under the age of 21, and he achieved the best result in the history of BiH at the Olympic Games, qualifying for the semifinals of the competition.

The sport remained one of the bright spots of BiH for the rest of the year, and BiH swimmer Lana Pudar made sure that good news continue, as she won a bronze medal at the World Cup in small pools in the 100 meters butterfly and then won another bronze medal at the World Cup in small pools in the 200 meters.

Besides sports, smiles on people’s faces were brought afterevents in the film industry. BiH director Jasmila Zbanic‘s film “Quo Vadis, Aida?” won numerous awards in the world during 2021, and certainly the Oscar nomination and winning the “European Oscar” at the 34th European Film Awards should be specially pointed out.

The film industry offered us the Sarajevo Film Festival, where many world and regional personalities from the world of film arrived in Sarajevo this year as well, of which the German director Wim Wenders certainly stands out. Also, this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival was marked by Bono, the frontman of the U2 group, who visited the capital of BiH after a long time.

“I’m glad to be here again. It seems like it’s been too long, we tried to come last year, but we couldn’t. This is the best festival. In my mind, that 1997 concert in this city, at that moment, means more to me than I can explain in two sentences. It’s a big part of the life of our band and a small part of the life of your city and country, “ Bono stated on the red carpet.

Even though the music industry in BiH is still in some way a “victim” of the pandemic, two news items from the world of music delighted the citizens of Sarajevo, but also the whole of BiH. In 2021, it was announced that in 2022, Sting and the rock band Whitesnake will visit Sarajevo.

David Coverdale and Whitesnake will hold a concert in Sarajevo in Skenderija on July 19th, while Sting will hold a concert in Zetra Hall earlier, on March 19th.

During 2022, BiH, as well as the whole world, will face numerous political and other events that will almost certainly dominate the public and media space.
