The Tatra Ice Dome, a seasonal winter attraction in Slovakia’s High Tatras, has officially opened. This year’s dome, marking the beginning of the winter season, features intricate ice sculptures that showcase breathtaking artistry and attract a large number of visitors.

Nestled in the picturesque mountains, the attraction is a highlight for locals and tourists alike, offering a unique blend of culture and winter enchantment.

This year’s Tatra Ice Dome pays tribute to Pope John Paul II, commemorating 30 years since his visit to the region in 1995.

The stunning structure, crafted from 1.800 ice blocks with a total weight of 225 tons, is housed beneath a dome 25 meters in diameter. The interior is maintained at a temperature between minus three and minus ten degrees Celsius to preserve the icy artwork.

The project involved 20 skilled sculptors and carvers from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany. Led by Slovak artist Adam Bakos, the endeavor highlights extraordinary craftsmanship and artistry, AA writes.
