Bakir Izetbegovic, the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the son of the late Alija Izetbegovic, yesterday laid flowers on the grave of his father at the Shahids’ cemetery “Kovaci”.
Yesterday was the 90th anniversary of the birth of Alija Izetbegovic, one of the most significant BH politicians in the history.
That is exactly what Bakir Izetbegovic spoke about yesterday at the Shahids’ cemetery “Kovaci”, remembering his father and retelling interesting details and anecdotes from his life.
“My mother grew up not far from this place, and my father grew up close to the Spite House. At the time of the Second World War, he was 18 years old and he was a deserter in respect of that obligation in the Independent State of Croatia. He must not have moved, so he would move at night or during the bombing in order to see her, to flirt with her. Others were afraid of shells, but they were happy because everyone would retreat from the streets then. They used to sit on the benches, because back at the time a park was located here, instead of the shahids’ cemetery”, Izetbegovic said.
Izetbegovic reminded of the new project that is to start being realized. It is about, as he pointed out, “five to six hours of audio, i.e. the excerpts from the books of Alija Izetbegovic”.
“The excerpts will be read by selected actors, and I believe we will manage to complete it by October 19th, the day when he died 12 years ago. It will bring Alija’s thought, which was strong, close to the people. Alija spent nine years in prisons, and eight years in wars. He had a tough, but heroic life”, Izetbegovic concluded.
