A tragedy was prevented at the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska, when a mother tried to suffocate her baby with a pillow, Nezavisne novine confirmed.

“The workers managed to prevent it, and called a social worker and the police,” says a source from Nezavisne novine.

As he adds, this happened a few days ago and the investigative authorities took over the case.

“The child is currently fine,” said the source.

The acting prosecutor of the District Public Prosecutor’s Office in Banja Luka requested that twenty-year-old V.P., who is suspected of trying to suffocate her baby with a pillow at the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska, be detained.

“The acting prosecutor, after questioning V.P., yesterday submitted a motion for detention to the District Court in Banja Luka,” the Banja Luka prosecutor’s office stated.

The mother, as confirmed to Nezavisne novine, is charged with attempted aggravated murder.

The prosecutor proposed that the mother be placed in custody due to special circumstances that justify the fear that the suspect will complete the attempted crime.

“The motion for custody will be decided by the judge for preliminary proceedings of the District Court in Banja Luka,” the Banja Luka prosecutor’s office said.
