Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović, during his official visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, spoke with the President of the Senate of the Netherlands Jan Anthonie Bruijn and the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Netherlands Martin Bosma, Bećirović’s office in Sarajevo announced.

The presidents of both houses of the Parliament of the Netherlands expressed the importance of remembering the victims of the genocide committed in Srebrenica.

“The genocide in Srebrenica is a dark chapter of humanity and that is why it is important that July 11 is remembered around the world. They also emphasized that the Netherlands continues to strongly support the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” it was stated.

On that occasion, Bećirović expressed his satisfaction with the strengthening of cooperation between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Bosnia and Herzegovina, including intensified high-level visits.

“He thanked for the adoption of the Parliamentary resolution that opened the possibility for the Netherlands to support the European Council’s decision to open negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina. He expressed the hope that the Parliament of the Netherlands will continue to support the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the future,” the statement said.

The President of the Senate of the Netherlands, Jan Anthonie Bruijn, and the President of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Netherlands, Martin Bosma, emphasized the need to intensify reform processes in priority areas for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Bećirović especially thanked the Netherlands for its involvement in helping the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica and for its strong support for the adoption of the Resolution on Srebrenica in the United Nations General Assembly. In this context, he particularly emphasized the need for continuous spreading of truth and justice and dealing with the past in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which includes the process of reconciliation, trials for war crimes and preserving the memory of the victims, the BiH Presidency announced.
