Contrary to his previous statement, US President Joseph Biden said that a cease-fire in Gaza is unlikely to be reached until Monday, but that he is still hopeful.

Biden answered reporters’ questions about Gaza in the White House garden before leaving for Texas.

Asked about his earlier statement that a truce would be reached by this Monday, Biden replied:

“There’s always hope. I’ve had phone conversations with regional leaders. Probably (the ceasefire) won’t happen this Monday, but I’m still hopeful.”

The US president answered questions from reporters during a visit to New York earlier this week. Asked when a cease-fire in Gaza might be reached, Biden said: “I hope by the end of this week. My national security adviser said we’re very close, but we’re not done yet. I hope for a cease-fire (in Gaza ) until next Monday”, AA writes.
