In connection with the increased number of inquiries from media houses, the Border Police (GP) of Bosnia and Herzegovina informed the public on Wednesday that the Embassy of Hungary in Bosnia and Herzegovina informed the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina on February 24, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, about the arrival of 78 members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Hungary in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
As stated by the BiH Border Police, Hungarian police officers are in BiH as part of cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republika Srpska and conducting anti-terrorist exercises at the Training Center of the MUP of the Republika Srpska in the period from February 24 to March 9, 2025.
Members of the Hungarian Interior Ministry, an EU member state, had valid travel permits during border checks, and since they met the conditions for crossing the state border and all procedures were legally followed, 40 members of the Hungarian Interior Ministry entered Bosnia and Herzegovina, crossing the state border at several border crossings under the jurisdiction of the Northeast Bijeljina Field Office of the BiH Border Police, while the arrival of the remaining members is planned during the exercise.
The BiH Border Police emphasize that the members of the Hungarian Interior Ministry entered Bosnia and Herzegovina as civilians and without uniforms, in civilian vehicles, and that they did not possess any type of weapon.
In all cases of crossing the state border, the BiH Border Police acts in accordance with its jurisdiction and in accordance with the Law on Border Control, and in accordance with that law, the aforementioned foreign citizens did not need special permits to enter the country.
