BiH House of Peoples Rejected Amendments to BiH Criminal Code

SONY DSCMembers of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly rejected the Bill on amendments to the BiH Criminal Code during the first reading.

This law was returned to regular procedure since the simplified procedure, proposed by the Council of Ministers, was not accepted at last week’s session.

The Law did not receive the consent of the entity majority since members of the Serb caucus again voted against this law.

After all of this, the law is directed for harmonization to the Collegium of the House of Peoples, but the Chairman of the House of Peoples, Dragan Čović (Croatian Democratic Community – HDZBiH) reminded that Sulejman Tihić, member of the Collegium from the Bosniak caucus has not participated in a long time in the sessions.

The adoption of this law in the House of Peoples would result in excluding BiH from the so called “black list” when it comes to financial transactions in and outside of BiH but the members of the Serb causus do not support these changes because they think it will transfer jurisdiction from RS to BiH.

The BiH Council of Ministers adopted the proposal to amendments of this law for the harmonization with the BiH criminal legislation and international law and its harmonization with recommendations of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Experts for evaluating the fight against money laundering and financing terrorist activities.
