A Bosnian is the Youngest Politician in the Netherlands

Roermond_marktThe youngest candidate in the recent municipal elections in the Netherlands was one-a Bosnian. Even though Muhamed Tuhčić (18) was born in the Netherlands, his father comes from Divič near Zvornik.

According to Dnevni Avaz, he was a candidate at the elections of the Liberal National Party (Liberale Volkspartij Roermond). He is the child of B&H refugees who were expelled from the Drina valley.

Mehmed gladly entered the political ring because he said that politics has interested him even as a young boy. Although the party won ten seats, it did not enter the Council (it was 15th on the list), but he awaits involvement in municipal commissions, so he said that he is still satisfied.

”Since the beginning of the economic crisis in 2008, I noticed that the Netherlands is going backwards. I could have done two things: like mostly everyone else to stand aside or to be actively involved in politics. I chose the second”, said Tuhčić, who is the official member of two parties, the ruling VVD and LVR, the local variant of the same party.

He believes that LVR is an excellent schools so that in the future he could do the same at the state level, and he is really satisfied to have been accepted to the party. Since October, Mehmed will be a student at ‘European Studies’ in Maastricht.

”Party colleagues often come from international companies and they have intensive contact with people throughout the world. I am accepted by my abilities and my values, and not from my heritage or religion”, he said. His wish is to intensify contacts of Roermond with cities in B&H, especially at the economic level.
