Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Josip Brkić said, during his participation in the 19th international conference Dubrovnik Forum, that BiH sees the green transition as a strategic necessity and development opportunity, and said that our country wants to be a regional energy connector and a reliable partner in strengthening European energy security.
This year’s Dubrovnik Forum, which will be held on June 26 and 27 in the city of the same name under the title “The Age of Multipolarity: Many Directions, One Future”, brought together high-ranking officials, representatives of international organizations, academia, civil society and the business sector from different parts of the world.
On the first day of the Forum, Brkić participated in the panel “Energy Competition in a Multipolar World: How to Strengthen European Sovereignty and Resilience”, dedicated to the challenges of energy security, the green transition and strengthening Europe’s resilience in a complex geopolitical environment.
BiH has significant potential
During the discussion, he emphasized that climate change, energy security and sustainable development have become key factors of economic prosperity, social stability and international cooperation, and emphasized that BiH views the green transition as a strategic necessity and a development opportunity for the modernization of the economy.
He emphasized that BiH has significant potential in the field of hydropower, solar energy, wind energy and geothermal sources, and that it wants to be an active participant in European energy security and a reliable partner in the energy transition process.
Among other things, speaking about current global challenges, he pointed out that Europe can further strengthen its energy sovereignty through diversification of sources and routes of supply, accelerated investments in renewable energy sources, development of electricity networks, storage capacities and strengthening cross-border energy connections.
Significance of regional and interregional energy partnerships
He particularly emphasized the importance of regional and interregional energy partnerships and emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina sees European energy partnerships as an opportunity to diversify supply routes and energy sources, strengthen infrastructure connections and develop domestic energy capacities.
Brkić finally concluded that BiH wants to be a regional energy connector and an active participant in European energy corridors, not just a transit area, and that regional partnerships are one of the key tools for strengthening energy sovereignty, stability and prosperity of the entire region.
On the sidelines of the Dubrovnik Forum, Deputy Minister Brkić met with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Mnatsakan Safaryan. They discussed the bilateral relations of the two countries, the possibilities of their improvement, as well as cooperation on the multilateral level and the current geopolitical circumstances, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH announced.
