“Building strong and lasting Bilateral Relations between Denmark and BiH”

On Tuesday, the Assembly of the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina hosted a meeting between the President of the Assembly, Damir Bulčević, and Åge Sandal Møller, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The President of the Assembly briefed the Ambassador on the constitutional and legal position of the District, its specific features, and the competences and role of the Assembly as a legislative body. Special emphasis was placed on the readiness to develop cooperation in the economic, institutional and social fields, as well as the inclusion of Brčko in European integration processes.

Ambassador Møller is the first resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Bosnia and Herzegovina in fifteen years, since the Embassy of this country was reopened in Sarajevo. This confirmed Denmark’s renewed interest in strengthening political and diplomatic relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, including open communication with all levels of government and local communities, among which the Brčko District holds an important place.

A significant part of the conversation was dedicated to the diaspora, given that more than 23,000 people of Bosnia and Herzegovina origin live in Denmark today. The Danish Ambassador emphasized the key role of this community as a bridge of cooperation between the two countries, and its contribution to building strong and lasting bilateral relations.

In a friendly and constructive atmosphere, views were exchanged on current political processes, the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the role of the Brčko District of BiH as a unique local community within that framework.

As noted, this meeting is given special significance by the political moment in which it is taking place – the Kingdom of Denmark has been a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council since 1 January 2025, and has been chairing the Council of the European Union since 1 July.
