CEC: Only the full Amount of Funds enables Elections to take place

Yesterday, the Central Election Commission (CEC) again commented on the issue of financing the upcoming General Elections.

They announced themselves after the Council of Ministers decided that more than nine million BAM from the Communications Regulatory Agency would be used to finance the elections. However, this amount of money is not enough to conduct the elections, and they emphasized that from the CEC.

“Today’s decision of the Council of Ministers does not enablethe General Elections to be held on October 2nd. Now only a special decision of the Office of the High Representative (OHR) on the full amount requested by the CEC with all economic codes allows elections,” the CEC said yesterday.

Yesterday, the Council of Ministers adopted the draft of this year’s budget for state government institutions. However, the Minister of Finance and Treasury, Vjekoslav Bevanda (HDZ), rejected the possibility of budget financing for the elections. The draft budget is yet to be considered by the legislature.

Some parties think that the HDZ is preventing the adoption of the budget because the Election Law has not yet been changed according to the requirements of the HDZ, and this primarily refers to the application of the principle of “legitimate representation”. The HDZ has repeatedly pointed out that they believe that there are no conditions for holding elections, Klix.ba writes.
