Cheaper Prices in Trebinje for Citizens of Dubrovnik

Trebinje i SrbijaThe connection between Trebinje and Dubrovnik has existed since ancient times, especially when it comes to trade. Until the last war, people from Trebinje brought their goods and sold them in Dubrovnik. However, after the war everything changes. Due to favorable prices, a large number of citizens from Dubrovnik have started going to Trebinje for shopping.

Even if Croatia is a member of the EU, people from Dubrovnik continue to do their shopping in the BiH town that is 30 kilometers away. They do not come to Trebinje only for the cheap and quality fruit and vegetables, but also buy food, clothes, footwear at lower prices, as well as automobile services, and in the last period medial services.

“In the last two years, I go to Trebinje every Saturday. I buy here fruits and vegetables at lower prices than in Dubrovnik, and what is best, it is obvious that it is organic and healthy. In the supermarkets here I buy other food products, which are also cheaper, and when you add tax returns, then it really pays to shop here’’, said Marija.

Prices in Trebinje are in KM, but on the markets Kunas are accepted, as well as euros.

One kilogram of tomatoes in the market in Trebinje cost 1-1.5 KM, and in Dubrovnik the cheapest tomatoes are 2-2.5 KM (10 Kunas). For a kilogram of watermelon in Dubrovnik, you can buy 3-4 kilograms for the same price. What most people from Dubrovnik buy in Trebinje are cigarettes, and Croatian cigarette brands. In Croatia they cost more than 5 KM, and in Trebinje they cost 3.2 KM.

“For me, all customers are the same. I have a lot of regular customers from Dubrovnik, and many of them call me one day ahead to place an order. Everything that you see on the table is what I have grown, without any artificial additives. People recognized this, and the prices are favorable for them’’, said Zorica, who sells her products on the marketplace in Trebinje.
