Civic resistance against the collapse of the state and peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) was the topic of yesterday‘s regular session of Circle 99.
Introductory speaker Emir Ramic from the Genocide Research Institute of Canada sees very strong potential in the BiH diaspora which could mobilize the international community and the citizens of BiH to fight more resolutely for the salvation of the state.
In his address, Ramic pointed out the need to establish a strategy of BiH diplomacy and lobbying, which would include better coordination of all BiH organizations, communities, institutes,and academies in the diaspora.
”We already have excellent individual actions of many successful men and women in the diaspora, but that is not enough now when the state needs to be defended. We need joint work and directing of very important resources that the diaspora has, and not only material, but also scientific, cultural, political,and of any other nature,” Ramic pointed out.
Restart member Suad Djozic spoke about civic activism as a necessary tool for solving difficult problems in society.
”In BiH, this phenomenon has so far been in the sphere of something exotic. However, the citizens finally realized that the elections do not lead to the necessary changes,” Djozic emphasized.
Meho Kapo has been an activist in BiH organizations in the Kingdom of Sweden for decades and he emphasized the importance of connecting and self-organizing at the local level in the countries of residence, and then the global integration of BiH citizens together with activists in the homeland.
”I believe it is important that civic activism is seen and heard in the media as much as possible. The media have this role, but also the responsibility to promote the voice of free citizens so that the truth can be seen as clearly as possible, ” claims Kapo.
”First of all, we need a broader coalition of domestic forces, political parties, civil society, and civil activists, who will open a broader forum on the importance of the country’s survival and consideration of all shortcomings of this system in the past 26 years, ” said Dino Salihagic, organizer of the protest in Brussels.
He also mentioned that the attack on Ukraine has finally materialized Russia’s negative influence and that Putin’s isolation of Russia is dulling the blades of domestic separatists and European right-wingers, which is now favorable for BiH.
