Direct foreign investments in BiH recorded a certain increase in the year of 2016, especially in the FBiH. Last year, they amounted to a total of 536.3 million BAM, of which a total of 484.6 million BAM referred to the FBiH.
Croatia is still the most deserving for a positive trend of direct investments in the FBiH. This neighbouring country was in the leading position again last year with a total amount of 122.7 million BAM. The second on the list are the United Arab Emirates with 68.7 million BAM.
Two other countries, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, also recorded more than 40 million BAM of direct investments in the FBiH.
Kuwait invested 29.5 million BAM last year and Saudi Arabia invested a total of 33.6 million BAM. Direct investments from Turkey amounted to 30.3 million BAM.
It is interesting that there were no direct investments from the large world economic forces, such as the United States, China or Russia, while investments from Germany were very modest and they amounted to only 1.1 million BAM.
Croatia is also on the list of the largest foreign investors in the post war period, and its total investment amounted to 2.1 billion BAM.
Austria, with a total of 1.8 billion BAM, and Slovenia, with a total of 564 million BAM, are also important investors in the FBiH. Fields with the highest foreign investments registered are financial services, wholesale trade, real estate market and the production of non-metallic mineral products as well as the production of basic metals.
