The Prime Minister of the RS, Zeljka Cvijanovic, the Mayor of Banja Luka, Igor Radojicic, and director of IEE company, Borko Torbica, officially opened the newly constructed facility of “Eco heating plant” in Banja Luka in the presence of numerous officials and guests.
“On March 15, last year, I suggested to the members of the City Assembly to enter a project that seemed unrealistic to many people back then, but which would solve the problem of remote heating in Banja Luka and construct a new heating plant in just one season. Today, our problem is solved, citizens have a reliable heat supply, and we received a financially sustainable system because we have a new company that should be profitable instead of the heating plant that recorded 10 to 20 million BAM of losses every year,” said Mayor Radojicic.
“The EEuropean Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) financed the participation of the City in the construction of this facility. This is the first project in which the EBRD cooperated with the City and we are very proud to be part of this project. I hope that it will not be the last one, and we are already discussing other potential projects that include water supply, street lighting and other sectors in communal infrastructure in this city,” stated Ian Brown, the director of the office of EBRD in BiH.
“We made the financial and procedural assumptions in order to start with the realization of this project, and the largest engagement was on local self-government,” said PM Cvijanovic.
She also noted that this project was recognized in regional frameworks as well, and there is a strong connection between this and the recommendations and strategic documents of the EU.
The construction of a new heating plant is the largest infrastructure communal project in the past decade and, also, one of the main strategic goals of the current administration of the City of Banja Luka.
