Marking the 74th anniversary of Egypt’s July 1952 Revolution, Ambassador of Egypt to Bosnia and Herzegovina His Excellency Mr. Walid Haggag reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Bosnia and Herzegovina while highlighting Egypt’s role as a promoter of international peace, stability, and multilateral cooperation.
Addressing guests at Egypt’s National Day reception in Sarajevo, Ambassador Haggag described the July Revolution as a defining moment that ushered in a new era of sovereignty, dignity, progress, and prosperity for the Egyptian people.
Reflecting on Egypt’s development over the past seven decades, he said the country remains proud of its ancient civilization, resilient society, national identity, and contributions to international peace and security.
The ambassador stressed that Egypt’s foreign policy continues to be guided by international law, the UN Charter, and the principles of cooperation, equality, and mutual respect, while advocating for a more just and equitable global order.
Haggag noted that Egypt continues to play a significant role in promoting peace and security, particularly in the Middle East and Africa, amid growing geopolitical tensions, prolonged conflicts, and emerging global challenges.
Speaking from Sarajevo, the ambassador praised Bosnia and Herzegovina’s resilience and multicultural character, describing the country as an example of how societies can overcome division and build a shared future.
He emphasized that Egypt has remained a traditional friend and reliable partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina throughout its post-war recovery and development, adding that bilateral relations have expanded significantly during his tenure.
The ambassador pointed to an increase in high-level visits over the past year, including exchanges involving ministers from both countries, as well as the signing of several cooperation agreements covering tourism, youth, labour, diplomatic training, and defence.
Looking ahead, Haggag said Egypt is committed to further deepening cooperation, with particular emphasis on cultural exchanges and stronger people-to-people connections.
He also highlighted Egypt’s growing popularity as a tourist destination for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina and invited visitors to experience the recently inaugurated Grand Egyptian Museum, the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization.
The ambassador also recognized the thousands of professionals from Bosnia and Herzegovina who have participated in Egyptian technical assistance and capacity-building programmes over the past three decades, particularly in diplomacy and security, describing them as lasting ambassadors of friendship between the two nations.
Concluding his address, Haggag thanked Bosnian officials, diplomatic representatives, partners, and guests for their continued cooperation and support, expressing confidence that the shared values and strong partnership between Egypt and Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to grow.
